[Report From The Ground]: Harry Potter: The Exhibition

Pottermania at the Super Brand Mall. Is it worth 170rmb?
Last updated: 2015-12-07
Harry Potter: The Exhibition, produced in partnership with Warner Bros., , showcasing recreations of select costumes, settings, and props from all eight Harry Potter films...

...at the mall. , to be precise. What a name for a mall. Wonder which creative consultancy came up with that one.

The pieces on display were "inspired by" the films, and the staff said some of these items were used on the film sets, but they didn't sound too confident. That said, they look authentic and well crafted. We strolled through the exhibit today. Have a look.

Hey it's that golden egg. Look at it. LOOK AT IT.

And that Triwizard Cup. If there's a bar serving a 160rmb gin & tonic, they god damn better serve it in this.

Just a classic meth lab operation.

No lie no lie no lie... Shout out to Drake.

Lil' blue pixie bro picking up some suits from the fabric market.

Don't really remember this one.

The exhibit's descriptions are Chinese-only as are the dubbed clips shown on the screens in a few of the rooms -- an odd choice considering the movies were shown primarily in English here.

(When you look in the mirror in the Amber Lounge bathroom at 8.37am)

Riddikulus.

Quidditch gear.

Not much of the exhibit is interactive. If you're paying attention, you'll notice that the dragon's egg in Hagrid's hut shakes a little now and then, and you can try pulling out a screaming Mandrake. At the beginning of the tour, you can put on the Sorting Hat, who'll tell you which house you belong to. That's about it.

Fawkes lookin' good.

Buckbeak, lookin' reeeeeeaaaaallllll high.

Hagrid's hut.

Death Eater/Sith Lord.

Diet Smaug.

There's six or seven rooms in this 15,000 square-foot exhibition space, and getting through there takes about 25-40 minutes, depending on how often you're stopping for photos. The crowd was mostly young Chinese girls in their teens and twenties, some clad in wizard robes. One girl anxiously asked if she could still pick up the ticket she bought online even though she forgot to bring her ID. She got in fine, though we're pretty sure she would have paid for another ticket if she needed to.

OH SHI-

Expecto patronum!!

Phew.

Can't remember which book these characters are from.

Exit through the gift shop, where a plastic wand is 350rmb.

If you're a die-hard fan of the Harry Potter movies, this might be something worth checking out. Otherwise, for the cost of 170rmb for one adult ticket, you're probably better off doing something else. They'll probably be raking in the money regardless, though.

The exhibit runs daily from 10am-1pm, 2-5pm, and 6-9pm until February 28 on the 9th floor of the . Children's tickets are 110rmb, student's tickets are 130rmb, and you can buy adult tickets in packages of three for 450rmb or one ticket for 170rmb. Cash only, if you're buying there, or you can buy .
