Shanghai's art scene is... thriving! Relatively.

Relatively, in comparison with, oh say, this exact same time last year.

'Lo these past few weeks, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏÍø has the pleasure to stoke our chins at a plethora of fine and noble art galleries and museums around town, supping with renewed vigor the works of human expression and ingenuity on display therein.

Botticelli and the Renaissance

"Botticelli and the Renaissance" presents 48 rare paintings by renowned artists of the Florentine School of the Italian Renaissance. On display is ten works by Sandro Botticelli, from the Florentine museum's collections. The will feature, among others, Botticelli's "Adoration of the Magi" and "Pallas and the Centaur", together with works by his master Filippo Lippi and his contemporaries. The exhibition highlights the transition from Gothic to Renaissance art and the significant influence of the famous Medici family on art history in Europe through various art forms such as tempera paintings, oil paintings, fresco paintings, and sculptures.

Interactive Installations Exhibition: The People of Tomorrow

The Centre Pompidou X West Bund Museum Project is hosting a new interactive installation exhibition called "People of Tomorrow". It is the first exhibition in China by the renowned French artist and international fashion peson, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. The artist has created a world full of whimsy using various symbols, taking the audience on a journey of discovery and creation. Jean-Charles de Castelbajac hopes that this exhibition, which he considers a gift to all, "will touch the hearts of all audiences and kindle their love and resonance with pure hearts."

400 Years of Western Figurative Painting

From the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum Collection to Shanghai Powerlong Museum comes this massive exhibition tracing 400 years of Western figurative painting. Nearly 60 works on display, spanning from the 16th century to the 20th century. On show: baroque court painter Van Dyck, neoclassical master Ingres, romantic masters Goya and Delacroix, Vienna Secession painting master Grace Rimut, masters of surrealism Chagall and Magritte — right up to pop art celebrity, Andy Warhol. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am-6pm. (5pm last entry.) Restaurant open until 8:30pm.

Raymond Depardon: La Vie Moderne

The Foundation Cartier and the Power Station of Art are collaborating to present the first solo exhibition in China by French photographer and film director, Raymond Depardon, entitled "La Vie Moderne." The exhibition aims to give the audience a taste of his innovative approach to contemporary imagery since the 1970s. The exhibition's title is from the last part of the trilogy "Profils Paysans," which was co-produced by Raymond Depardon and Claudine Nougaret in 2008. The exhibition features nearly 100 photographic works and a themed film that showcases how the artist simplifies the interpretation of images by putting the images first, leaving space for the subject to take center stage.

‘Van Gogh Alive', Immersive Art Exhibition

It's another one of these Van Gogh immersive things but quite a bit smaller than other versions we've seen in the past -- only a couple rooms.

Anyways, this is a multi-sensory traveling exhibition dedicated to the life and work of the internationally renowned Dutch artist Van Gogh. ‘Van Gogh Alive' presents nearly 3,000 Van Gogh's works, manuscripts and letters in digital form. The exhibition, known as the most visited immersive experience in the world, with over 10 million vistors from 89 cities in 30 countries – including New York, Paris, London, Tokyo and Beijing. Shanghai is the 90th city to host an exhibition that has achieved a global influence and it will be shown in the World Expo Museum. The exhibition starts on April 29. Early Bird Tickets cost 99rmb.
