Matthew Bourne returns to Shanghai Culture Square from June 12 to 16 with his globally renowned production of "Romeo and Juliet." This marks his fifth return, continuing his legacy of narrative-driven and intricately choreographed ballets. The show is a modern reinterpretation of Shakespeare's drama, exploring the love story between Romeo and Juliet against a backdrop of societal division. By blending modern dance with classical ballet, Bourne's distinctive style—combining explosive narrative and fluid choreography—promises to captivate with its emotional depth and innovative interpretation. Performances are scheduled for multiple dates, with ticket prices ranging from 380 to 680 rmb, at the main theatre of Shanghai Culture Square.

The WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne (German: WDR Sinfonieorchester) is a German radio orchestra based in Cologne, Germany. Since its founding more than 70 years ago, the WDR Sinfonieorchester has established itself as an internationally respected ensemble. The orchestra is currently under direction of the famous and Grammy-winning conductor Cristian Măcelaru. From April 17 to 18, the Orchestra will continue to amaze the audience in Shanghai since their last visit in 2015. Under the baton of Măcelaru, they will present two concerts in a row, performing the complete Brahms symphony.

Drummer Steve Smith has been touring and recording with his all-star group Vital Information since 1983. The band leader Steve Smith has toured and recorded with some of the biggest names in jazz and rock - appearing on recordings that have sold over 100 million copies worldwide - including Journey, Bryan Adams, Mariah Carey, Zucchero and JeanLuc Ponty. The band features 2 new members: Manuel Valera, a Grammy-nominated pianist and composer; and Janek Gwizdala, bass player with over 25 years of experience on the international jazz scene. They will perform in Shanghai at the Jazz Lincoln Center for two nights only from May 9 to 10.

Enji Erkhem, who resides in Munich, is one of the most anticipated new jazz vocal stars in the international music scene. "Ursgal" is the first record featuring her original works. The new album goes beyond the boundaries of genre, fuses the style of traditional Mongolian music, and starts a musical journey of tracing back to her roots from a novel perspective. It was selected as one of the top ten jazz albums of The New York Times and The Washington Post in 2023. This concert will be Enji's debut in Shanghai, bringing a unique nomadic jazz music scene in the form of a trio. Jazz guitarist Paul Brändle from Germany and bassist Martin Zenker will also join this performance.

The Orchestra of the Royal Opera of Versailles, together with the French powerful countertenors, make its first visit to the Shanghai Oriental Art Center on April 7, performing their signature pieces: Baroque opera arias and Vivaldi's The Four Seasons. The Orchestra of the Royal Opera of Versailles holds an average of 100 performances per year, and is particularly good at performing Baroque and Romantic period music. The conductor of this concert is Stefan Plewniak, and countertenors Paul-Antoine Bénos-Djian, Théo Imart, and famous violinist Zhang Zhang are also invited.

An entirely interactive musical experience where the audience is the show. The Canadian performance troupe "Samajam" presents a show for families, creating musical happenings with the help of their young audiences. After a successful tour last year, they're back in China, taking their audience on a journey through the culture and music of South America. Lively show leaders on stage will teach the audience basic music theory and lead parents and kids in percussive group performances with instruments provided. Tickets range from 180rmb to 380rmb.

Laurent Coulondre is a French jazz artist and winner of the Best New Artist at Les Victoires du Jazz Awards 2016. He has released a number of records throughout the decade, the latest being Meva Festa in 2022. At the same time, Laurent Coulondre teaches jazz piano at the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté School of Music. During his China tour, he will perform at Shangyin Opera House on April 20 in Shanghai. Ticket ranges from 180-480rmb.

The Peach Blossom Fan is a traditional musical play and historical drama with 44 scenes that was completed in 1699 by the early Qing dynasty playwright Kong Shangren after more than 10 years of effort, reflecting the rise and fall of the Ming Dynasty through the love story of Hou Fangyu, a scholar, and Li Xiangjun, a famous Qinhuai prostitute. The "1699·Peach Blossom Fan” version by Jiangsu Kun Opera Theater is a unique existence. It is a work condensed by director Tian Qinxin based on stage aesthetics. From 44 plays to 6 plays, it retains the original charm of The Peach Blossom Fan, the so-called "ancestor of all plays", to a great extent. The show is nearly 160 minutes long, at Theatre Young on March 30 evening and March 31 afternoon.
