1. Yogalicious

What is it: Yogalicious originally started as a pop-up, but they're sticking around. They've got acai bowls at 35rmb for the small and 50rmb for the regular -- those are thick smoothies, topped with nuts, seeds, and berries, eaten from a bowl. Then there's oatmeal porridge for something warmer from 35rmb. Tea is 20rmb. The owner, Angie, also teaches yoga on the rooftop. Drop-ins are 200rmb and you get a free bowl with your one hour yoga session. In the winter, the yoga will be combined with interval training. This is actually one of the nicer rooftops in the city -- you could come for the view alone.



First Impressions: Yogalicious is still largely undiscovered. That means you can literally have a nice peaceful rooftop to yourself. A fine place to bring a book and eat or do something healthy.

2. Funkadeli

What is it: Relaxed atmosphere here and plenty of seating inside and outside, but with enough room left to stand if it gets crowded. The food menu is quite extensive. Cold cuts and cheese platters are 120rmb, and lasagna, salads, wraps, panini, focaccia, and vegetarian options are around 65rmb. Draft beers such as Estrella Damm, Maredsous Blonde, and Goose Island are 35rmb-60rmb. Wine by the glass is 30rmb-40rmb. They've got the essential cocktails as well as a few interesting takes from 50rmb-65rmb. All in all, these prices are alright. An afternoon here isn't going to remind you of Venice, but it certainly is pleasant.



First Impression: Funkadeli finally has enough space that should keep their clientele of jubilant drunken Europeans from spilling their drinks on you. The question is, will it be popular without the YKL traffic bump?

3. Extra Time

What It Is: Extra Time is a cafe and lounge located right on the corner of Changde Lu and Changping Lu, adjacent to . Disguised as a sidewalk stand with just a window selling coffee, there is actually a decent sized underground space underneath the low-key, dark wood and concrete exterior. The space has a total of ten private cinema rooms located at each side, a dining area, and a sleek-looking bar in the middle. Extra Time shares the same ownership as M50's new media art space , and its support for the local art scene is clearly presented here as well.

In addition to their high spec cinema, which includes a library of 2000+ international and Chinese releases (uncut and licensed). They also offer a range of coffee, soft drinks, western food such as pasta, salads, burgers and dessert. Reasonably priced at around 20rmb-60rmb. The private cinema rate starts from 70rmb/hour for two people and 180rmb/ hour for six. Top up the membership card from 1000rmb and you can have 52rmb/hour for two.



First Impression: Extra Time is still in soft opening but the place is already nice, simple and tidy, without the tackiness that local private cinemas often have. Each room is equipped with comfy adjustable sofas that can charge your phone, and their screens have good 4K, 3D projection, and 7.1 Dolby surround sound. With good quality coffee and food combined with friendly service, this place is bound to become a hotspot for trendy local youngsters.
