Shanghai nights are getting cooler, iced coffees are switching to hot, and those pesky sore throats, coughs, and sniffles are already making their unwanted presence known around offices and classrooms. Might be a good idea to be proactive and get a flu shot early. We had an entire Q&A with Yosemite about how important flu vaccinations are, especially this year. Turns out a lot of other people have had the same idea.
According to 13 Shanghai hospitals we've spoken to, there are long, looong lines to get a flu shot appointment. One hospital we spoke to had 10,000 people on the waiting list, another had 15,000. Partly it's a sudden increase in demand for the flu compared to last year, partly it's due to stockpile that's still catching up. The production of flu shots is after the National Holiday, but we're still looking at long wait times.
If you're determined to get the shot, you can call and get yourself on a waiting list at places like Parkway, Jiahui, Shanghai East International Medical Center, Renai, Yosemite, SinoUnited and United Family Hospital. Most hospitals require an upfront payment of around 220rmb per shot, with waiting times of up to three months.
