All good -- and even marginal and bad -- things must come to an end and Music Monday is no exception. This weekly column was started by former Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏÍø / Beijing editor Morgan Short eons ago under the moniker MP3 Monday, way back before Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏÍø servers got too legit to host illegal MP3s. While I've never been able to hold a candle to the scorching hot wind that is Papa Bear (aka Morgan Short), it's been a great ride the past few years showcasing incoming acts and local happenings under this format. Hopefully, you got turned on to some stuff that you wouldn't have otherwise. Hopefully, a few local acts benefited from the support we tried to show in this space. From False Metal Exposes to The Far Out '60s Sounds of the China, and everything in between, most likely it will be the weekly ritual of slagging off DJs for not being real musicians that I'll miss the most.

Moving forward Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏÍø will feature a weekly Live Music Guide, showcasing the upcoming gigs around town, ideal for people who get lost on the few clicks to the "events listing" section. That will probably be on the "wire" section of the website to clear up this prime real estate for what the people really want: brunch coverage, brunch coverage, bunch coverage. The clicks have spoken. Now, for one last time, let's check out who is picking up a microphone, guitar, or Theremin in Shanghai this week.

CENTAURS is a regular live showcase of China based bands and electronic acts hosted by HanHan of and his solo project . Friday features Shanghai dreampop eletro band playing alongside the husband and wife experimental duo . Also playing is a Hangzhou band that was formed back in 2014. A great gig if you're interested in checking out the best of what Shanghai has to offer in local acts. CENTAURS costs 30rmb at the door and starts at 9:30pm.

Naga Guitars Present: Acoustic Night

Friday, March 18th @ MAO Live House



A special acoustic treat down at Mao Live House as Chinese guitar brand Naga presents a night of string plucking female virtuosos. From Korea is 22 year old guitarist and music composer of Numaure Records (formerly of BranFlakes Records -- your favorite). Playing alongside Sandra will be 19 year old Swedish Fingerstyle performer who has been playing since the tender age of 12. Rounding out the bill is fellow guitarist from Japan. The three ladies have toured Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and are now playing 6 dates on the Mainland. The show will run you a whopping 220RMB at the door and starts early at 8pm.

The punk pick of the week goes to incoming garage rockers . Comprised of Mr. Clit rocking the guitar and microphone backed up by his female bandmates on bass and drums the Americans rock harder than the Manson family on speed. They present a perfect balance of campy on stage antics with hardcore trash punk that is sure to get the crowd in pogo position. They are backed up by local expat dream team that are accompanying Mr. Clit on an 8 city China tour that includes a stop in Yiwu. If you can't make Saturday's Yuyintang show catch them on Tuesday March 22 at the water town Zhujiaojiao on an hour outside Shanghai. The show cost 60rmb and starts at 9pm.
