The mix maker: Shanghai gets a rare treat this Saturday night with the arrival of Ricardo Guzman F, AKA Dubatonik, in from Puebla, Mexico. His musical liner notes trace the cumbia sounds of his neighborhood block party heritage into the larger currents of Latino music of the last several decades coming out of both North and South America. For his set on , he's doing vinyl-only, cracking open his record case for an eclectic night of music that hits on the underground funk and Latin soul of Mexico and the States, into Afrobeat, and Tropical Boogaloo.

If you like it hot, hot, hot, slot that one in to your agenda -- summer goes down best with the snap, crackle, and pop of old-ass Latin wax, eh. It's no cover charge. Starts 10pm. Here's five tracks from Dubatonik.

Irakere - "Aguanile Bonco"

Dubatonik says: Irakere -- this is an Afro-Latin Cuban band. They mix different kinds of music between funk and latino culture -- , classic music, and psychedelia. This line-up of musicians basic to understanding the modern music coming out of Cuba.

Ocote Soul Sounds - "Return of the Freak"

Dubatonik says: This is the B-side project of Martin Perna (antibalas) and Adrian Guesada (brownout). They mix desert-inspired sounds with landscapes from Latin roots, Afrobeat, and cosmic funk. They got four albums out: El Niño y El Sol, Alchemist Manifesto, Coconut Rock, and Taurus.

The LTG Exchange - "Corazon"

Dubatonik says: I just like this band. They're funny, funky, and the chorus is loaded with Latin soul. They represent that Latino sound coming out of North America in the middle of the '70s. "Corazon" is when the party grew up! You can also check out this Mexican band called Titan. They did a funny remake of this version with electronic elements, 25 years after it was a hit.

Chico Mann - "Dilo Como Yo"

Dubatonik says: Chico Mann -- Marquitos Garcia is a multi-instrumentalist living out in New Jersey and he's also the guitarist of Antibalas. He won the hearts of Latinos, though, when he released on Wax Poetics. Tracks on that one you should check out: "Harmonia", "Hay que Correr", and "Ilusion de Ti".

Los de Akino - "Mi Novia la panchera"

Dubatonik says: The super cumbia group from Cholula, Puebla. This is the new wave of cumbia style in Mexico and the U.S. Their shows are full of colors and bass lines. Very good musicians. Also, check out Los Daddys for another group from this kind of cumbia sonidera...
