[Mixtape]: R3

Ahead of Arkham's one-year anniversary shaker this Saturday, here's club manager R3 with some tracks and good memories...

Mixtape is asking DJs and producers coming to town, in their opinions, what are the five best songs ever and forever and ever. Or just five songs that are somewhat interesting for some reason. Or six songs. We're easy…

The mixmaker: A pillar of the Shanghai nightlife community for nigh a million years now, DJ R3 -- known to his mum as Reggie Laxatives -- has been the driving force behind many a wonderful DJ and band booking in Shanghai over the years, contributing immeasurably to the quality of music in this city and asking so very little in return: only money, fame, favors, wealth, prestige, power, free drinks, souls, sex.

On top of and running a promotion company that unfortunately , R3 is also your man at one of Shanghai's most important clubs: . , Arkham celebrates one year in the books with an anniversary party that features and celebrates local Shanghai DJ talent: Max Shen, Lin Feng, ADO8, El'se, and the kid himself, R3.

On behalf of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏÍø, we offer our sincere congratulations to Reggie, S.T.D., and the team at Arkham for reaching this milestone. We hope there's many more to come. Probably. If there's one thing Shanghai clubs are known for it's... longevity.

In anticipation of Saturday night's party we asked Reggie to mix up some tracks that have meant something to him and Arkham over the past while. Enjoy.

R3 says: Hey, here are the five songs for the mixtape thingy. They're all kind of throwbacks to shows we had done over the last year. Hopefully it'll give people a bit of an insight on the kind of music we cover and the good ol' times we had. Can't believe it's been a year!

Nosaj Thing - Caves

R3: I was actually in New York when this show was on and was completely gutted I had to miss it. I was receiving pictures and texts from everyone telling me how fantastic the night was. It was one of the biggest nights we had done up to that point and it gave us a lot of confidence to see a huge turn out for an act that wasn't a household name. The song name itself pretty much sums up the aesthetic of Arkham.

Shigeto - Detroit Part 1

R3: Hands down one of my favourite producers out there. This was the second time we brought Shigeto out to China but the first time he was playing with a live drum kit as well as all his usual button mashing. The show almost got cancelled at the very last minute because he was super sick and burnt out from touring. He plays SO MANY shows in a year and had never cancelled in his life...and still hasn't. Incredible show and definitely one of my faves from last year. What a trooper.

Kavinsky - Nightcall (Breakbot Remix)

R3: We got some sexy French touch last year in Arkham and it was a treat. Both Breakbot and Irfane were at the end of their tour and got a little loose with us. Slamming down top notch disco infused home runs. The perfect song when your night call involves a limo, bottles of champagne and a unicorn.

LCD Soundsystem - I Can Change (Tiga Remix)

R3: I had a mission to bring Tiga to Arkham after seeing him close a stage in Australia with these amazing remixes of SBTRKT and Fever Ray. I knew he'd nail it. So I went out and got him and funnily enough...he nailed it. This track just jumps out as my fave of the night. Total bliss.

The Presets - This Boy's In Love

R3: When we first started S.T.D., my partners and I sat around in a bar and joked with the idea of creating a music scene. We toyed with ideas of what New Order and Factory Records did in Manchester. How Shanghai felt like that at the time. I remember thinking about that conversation when I first DJ'd this song to a bunch of my friends dancing around in LOgO 2008. I was reminded of it again when The Presets performed this in front of me in Arkham.

So, so, so many thank yous, Shanghai.
