Pudong's four-day lockdown is slated to be lifted this morning, April 1 at 5am, and according to announcement made by the Shanghai city government on their official WeChat, it is.

Kinda.

Depends.

Depends where you are. And if there are any cases there. And how close those cases are to you.

Moving forward, the communities in Pudong district are being classified into three categories: "Lockdown Areas", "Control Areas", and "Prevention Areas", determined by their proximity to confirmed cases.

Here are the details on what those are, starting with the one you want the least.

Lockdown Areas

Any community within the same grid cell or neighboring grid cell of a community with an infected case will be categorized as a lockdown area.

Lockdown areas are in lockdown. (Duh.) As in, you can't leave your house or apartment. For any reason. Buildings with confirmed cases are "Lockdown Areas" for 14 days, subject to the testing that goes along with that.

Other areas outside the building but sharing a grid cell are under lockdown for 7 days, followed by community monitoring for 7 days. And subject to the testing that goes aling with that.

Control Areas

Any subdistrict or town with a community under lockdown will be categorized as a control area.

If you are in the larger neighborhood (subdistrict / town), you "cannot leave the community and gatherings are prohibited."

The area will be under 7 days of community monitoring. Corresponding number of tests will be conducted and should be conducted at the door. One person from each household may pick up deliveries at the compound gate at a designated time.

Prevention Areas

Any area that is not a lockdown area or a control area will be categorized as a prevention area.

This is everyone else. Seven days of self-health management and testing. "Strong management." "Limited gatherings."

So yeah. The lockdown is getting lifted in Pudong. Except in places where it's not. It's kind of like how it was before, with certain neighborhoods and complexes getting locked down and some not, according to proximity to positive cases in a given grid organization.

One would use the term "rolling lockdowns"...

And so it goes...
