Much like the first that opened on Guangyuan Lu in 2015 -- another hidden-ish, under-20 seater restaurant with a kitchen staff of two serving Shanghai's habitués "hidden gems"-- Chef Ishibashi Kenji's Donghu Lu location continues to serve food that might actually match the hype. There's much talk of Nice- and Marseilles-trained Chef Kenji's Japanese influence on the classic French dishes, but they're not particularly evident, except maybe in the fastidious execution. Decor is relaxed and homey French bistro vibes. The menus is 17 or so offerings, grouped together, taking you from cheese plates and starters, into meat-based mains. The food is rich, creamy, saucy, tender, succulently, and excellently done, but it does take its sweet time to amble onto your table. Recommend for fans of homey but high-end French cuisines and not bothered but a slightly pricier bill at the end. Expect dinner for two to cost you between 500rmb-700rmb depending on how deep you go on the wine list.
