This one passed us by until we rode past the other day: it appears Lyceum Theater on the corner of Maoming Lu and Changle Lu, has closed its doors and plastered a big metal sheet across the main entrance. According to a guy in a hardhat and visibility vest outside (and this ), the 90 year old building closed for renovations in early August. We managed to stick our head in through an unlocked side door and saw plenty of exposed brick, harsh white lighting and construction site paraphernalia, so that checks out.

The goal is apparently to bring back the historic look of the building, replacing the marble floor, fixing the staircases, replacing the exterior brick wall, adding some more bathrooms, expanding the AC units and adding more seats. Along with the actual theater, the upstairs mini-cabaret Candor closed, as has that restaurant on Changle Lu going back to the gas station. Mr. Hardhat hemmed and hawed when asked how long it'd stay shut, but the Kankan report says it'll be for about a year.
