Okay not 9 million, but 9 bars and restaurants will be opening inside the Ritz-Carlton's newest hotel, . EDITION all caps. Set in the old Shanghai Power Company building, built in 1932, it's setting itself up as a cultural hub as well as a luxury hotel. Which means you're supposed to want to go and spend your money there even if you don't stay in one of their 145 rooms. Hence, 9 bars, restaurants, "lifestyle destinations." Drinking
Apart from the requisite and two rooftop bars, on the tower building and on the neighboring Heritage Building, highlights on the drinking side include and . Both are smaller, cozier affairs (the latter only has space for 35). There's also this Studio 54-inspired venue called , which is where they'll be putting their big-name DJs and so on. Sounds like a -ish approach to attracting the crowds to a hotel.
Eating
The highlight is Chef Jason Atherton's imports. London's Sosharu is getting its Shanghai incarnation in the form of , with the kitchen headed up up by Christopher Pitts (formerly ). Also , Jason's "all-day dining, brasserie-style restaurant." The interior's an homage to the original design of architect Elliott Hazzard, who built the power company building. His parents were Dickens fans. Finally, a Cantonese joint called , because every hotel needs a Cantonese joint. This one comes courtesy of the crew at Hong Kong's Ho Lee Fook. All the F&B is being led by Executive Chef Scott Melvin (of ).
