A new cocktail lounge called Barules opened softly this week and already seems to be a hit among fashionable, well-heeled types from Taiwan. It resides behind a sliding door framed by irregular wood-paneling, just on the other side of Fenyang Lu from another recently-opened competitor.
It looks like the designers have taken cues from a few other bars in town, most notably the pressed tin ceiling, which looks like the one you'll see here, only gaudier. Rather than a sunken bar surrounded by arm chairs, that hallmark of the craft cocktail lounge, Barules has opted for the more standard barstool configuration, along with peripheral seating across two floors.
