Since last September, Full Love has been hosting a random slew of live and whatever else events: Chinese pop singers, hip hop dance ensembles, dinner theater events, a violin recital, and, of course, the obligatory Ukrainian model DJ night.

For good measure. As one does. Why the hell not. Ukrainian model DJ night, that just goes without saying.

Recently, they've expanded their booking roster even wider to include local expat hip hop crew The Foundation. When I stopped by to check out Full Love last week, they were doing "King Media" and The Foundation’s special event called "The Sound Of Music". The hills were alive, my friends, oh the hills were alive. It was an evening of live performances, DJing by Rocky Ross, and a twerk competition.

Yes, kids, I was in the thick of it. In the shit, if you will.

So the place is basically a big triangle. And the stage is a big triangle as well. Interesting. It's bisected by a giant concrete pillar that resides at the tip of the triangle, which splits the room up awkwardly. On the one side is a series of tables and on the other is the bar with a small open space. With no dance floor to speak of, god help anyone who gets seated in front of that pillar. Of course... sometimes maybe you want to count your blessings.

Full Love is not really suitable for rock shows since there is no centralized audience space in front of the stage. I wouldn’t try a DJ event here either. But then again, hey, who are we kidding, no one should try DJ events anywhere ever, right? Let's be real.

The layout is really geared towards mid-tier Chinese pop and club performance fodder. Full Love could potentially be utilized as a mid-sized theater venue though, despite the awkward stage set-up. Seating capacity is around 200 with about 150 being able to view the stage (including a VIP balcony with 10 tables).

Full Love has actually already hosted a few Chinese dinner theater events. A friend of mine visited a romantic comedy play entitled "因味爱,所以爱", about a woman finding her true passion -- her "full love", maybe. With a mixture of singing and comedy the actors provided a slightly-above-amateur performance and engaged the crowd on the floor, apparently. Attendee demographic was primarily office workers and well-to-do locals who evidently enjoyed the unique show. That play would have ran you 380rmb which included a buffet and soft drinks. Sound like your kind of thing?

Drinks-wise, they're operating according to classic Chinese club standards. On my visit, I ordered two Stella pints and the bartender brought one 500ML and one 330ML explaining they had ran out 500ML glasses. No skin off my teeth, I slapped a 100rmb bill on the bar and he looked at me like I was a vagrant from Anhui province and took the drinks away. After asking how much it was he explained 136rmb. I paid and got another dirty look for my troubles. So yeah, Hoegarden and Stella go for 68rmb a pint. And apparently the 330ML cost the same as the 500ML. You can also get Tsingtao or Heineken bottles but you have to order a minimum of 6 at a time (200rmb for half dozen Tsingtao, 280rmb Heineken and Corona).

Don't know about you, but when I drink Tsingtaos I like to drink them in orders of 6 at once. Just so much better that way, you know.

But, yeah, finished my Stella and left.
