When metal-bar announced a on the south side, in a mall called Bund Square, which is actually quite far from what most consider The Bund, many expressed skepticism. Opening a bar in a mall? How metal is that? I had also started questioning Inferno's metal cred earlier, when the owner opened , a 50's-themed cocktail and oyster bar in Jing'an.

Well, Inferno's new post is open. While it's nothing too evil like the metal bars in –you could probably bring your family here for lunch–they still play a lot of Slayer and Iron Maiden. This one trades the skid row vibes of the original for a nicer space with a full-sized stage for bands, a brand new sound system, and a kitchen, which will open soon. It is still the only place in Shanghai where you can show up any time and hear some heavy metal.

About fifteen minutes from by cab, the "mall" this Inferno inhabits is bizarre. It's one of those massive, open air structures better suited for southern California, and filled with random paintings of animals, "high-end" clothing shops with preserved alligators and typewriters in the store windows, and mystery restaurants like "Pizzeria alla Hungry." Apparently the local chapter of the Xiao Pingguo Ayi Dance Squad works out by Inferno nightly.
