The original is one of Shanghai's best low-key places to have a drink. They've stayed hidden in an alley on Wuding Lu since 2006, slinging uplifting reggae tunes and shochu, that Japanese alcohol distilled from barely, sweet potatoes, rice, carrots, and other ingredients. Good service, good music, lots of charm. Only problem is it's often impossible to get a seat, as the original can only hold twenty people at best. It's the kind of bar that people don't like to recommend for fear of "blowing up the spot."

Mokkos just opened , not far from where recently and that Yunnan restaurant set up shop. Judging by this area's ongoing gentrification and Mokkos' proximity to a certain expat ghetto called San He Hua Yuan, this is probably going to fare better than that time they briefly opened . It's bigger than the original, with a long-bar that seats ten, nine tables, a tatami room, a standing area on the patio, and one table outside. Still, get fifty people in here and it's going to feel rammed.
