Long before , a place called on Tongren Lu was the first club really pushing house music in the city. They closed in 2008, but one of the resident DJs from there -- and later at and -- was this dude named Danny. He's now one of the three partners in new Jing'an restaurant / bar / hang-out , just south of and several depressing massage establishments [side note: how did massage sisters kill time before WeChat was invented?]. A bold sign above Dope Shifu's entrance boasts, "The Temple of Ribs, Chamber of Beer, Fries of Surprise."
