Swanky Bund lounge does a '70s / '80s NYC-themed night every Wednesday where they play a lot of funk, soul, hip hop, and Latin jams. This is usually interspersed with live drumming and slam poetry. Good vibes.
Tonight, they're going all in with a dance battle hosted by Losst Unnown. (The spelling is on them.) The format is like this: 32 dancers split into pairs and the battle starts at 10pm sharp; music is non-stop, by DJ Caution; the hype comes from slam poetry MC Uche Sam and some dance battle MCs. For the final round, the last pair standing splits off for a 1-on-1 battle for 1,000rmb in big reds.
Serious dancers competing in this one. And there's a free gin bar from 9.30pm to 10.30pm. No cover.
