Rules on international travel are changing swiftly. In the last day, China has closed its border to almost all foreign nationals, foreign airlines are limited to one passenger plane into China per week, while domestic airlines are cut back to one passenger plane from each foreign country per week. Hotels are still mostly accepting foreigners, with restrictions, but there is some confusion. Details after the jump.

Getting Into China

The said that all other visas, non-visa entrance policies, and standard residence permit holders will not be able to enter China from midnight on Saturday, March 28. Only holders of diplomatic, service, courtesy or C visas (for crew members) are allowed into the country. Foreign passport holders with the rare Chinese permanent residence status aka Chinese green card, are still allowed to enter China. Foreign spouses or children of Chinese mainland residents who do not have permanent residence status are not exempt from the entry restriction. Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao passport holders can still enter the mainland, though foreign passport holders with Hong Kong, Taiwan or Macao permanent residence cannot enter Mainland China, according to the Frontier Inspection Authority. Flights In And Out Of China Cut To Bare Minimum

On Thursday, the restricted international flights operated by both foreign and domestic airlines. Each foreign airline can now only operate one route and one flight to Mainland China per week. Domestic airlines can only operate one route and one flight to each foreign country per week. All flights leaving and entering Mainland China must keep passenger capacity below 75 percent. Passenger-less cargo planes are unaffected. The new adjusted flight schedules will be submitted by airlines on Saturday, March 29.

Can A Foreigner Stay In A Hotel Now?

If you find yourself stuck in Shanghai, foreign passport holders are allowed to stay at hotels. That's as of Thursday, March 26, when we called 11 high-end hotels and serviced apartments.
